Robert (Bob) Gerald Laffey, son of Nellie May (Verbrugge) and Joseph F. Laffey, was born on June 29, 1931, in Armstrong, Iowa.  He passed into the hands of God on July 24, 2024, in Lincoln, California, at the age of 93.

Bob was united in marriage to Dixie Lee (Hansen) Laffey on July 2, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong. They were married 64 years when she passed away in 2019. They lived in California since 1967, spending summers in their Armstrong home since 1995. Bob worked for Aetna Casualty and Surety Company as a Safety Engineer and Manager of their Engineering Department in Sacramento for over 30 years, retiring in 1993.

Bob was known for his quiet kindness and great sense of humor.  He was a dedicated friend, husband and father.  He served his country in the Air Force from 1950 – 1954, stationed in Texas. He studied engineering at Iowa State University in Ames.

Bob’s passion was golf. When he could not be on the golf course himself, he enjoyed watching golf tournaments on TV. Armstrong was truly his happy place. He loved watching the golfers on the third hole of the Country Greens Golf Course from the comfort of his all-season room. He knew many of the local golfers and even knew some of the kids and grandkids of long-time Armstrong residents. He had good eyesight and an amazing memory.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Ramona (Gene) Schlauch of Reno, Nevada, Rhonda (Jeff Duarte) Laffey of Clarksburg, California, and Roxanna (Mike) Tooker of Sacramento, California, Brother-in-Law, Rodney (Carolyn) Hansen of Armstrong, and Sister-in-Law Jolene (Leroy) Johnson, of Armstrong, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Bob leaves the legacy of five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, his parents, his brothers Warren (Ruth), Duane (Dorothy), Donald (Dolores), James, Raymond, and Jerry (Marilyn) Laffey, and his grandson Robert Schlauch.
